A resolution commemorating the 100th Founding Anniversary of Alpha Phi Omega as an international service-oriented fraternity, and commending its members for their essential role in advancing the three cardinal principles of leadership, friendship, and service as invaluable contributions to nation-building in the Philippines and around the world.


WHEREAS, on December 16, 1925, Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a national service fraternity for college men founded by Frank Reed Horton at Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, United States of America, will celebrate its 100th founding anniversary;

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Omega was established in the Philippines by Librado I. Ureta on March 2, 1950 at the Far Eastern University in Manila, and formally registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on October 21, 1953, under the name Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity (Philippines), Incorporated, later renewed in 1981 as Alpha Phi Omega International (Philippines) , Incorporated;

WHEREAS, driven by its vision developing college men into leaders committed to the ideals of service and brotherhood, Alpha Phi Omega – has grown into one of the world’s largest college-based service fraternities, with chapters across the globe and millions of members steadfast in upholding its principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service;

WHEREAS, in the Philippines, Alpha Phi Omega has consistently demonstrated its vital role to nation-building through generation of leaders who have excelled in government, the academe, the military, business, civil society, and other professions, and by undertaking socio-civic initiatives such as disaster relief operations, blood donation drives, literacy program, tree-planting , environmental protection efforts, peace-building activities, and extensive community outreach programs;

WHEREAS, as Alpha Phi Omega commemorates its 100th founding anniversary, it is fitting to honor the men and women whose committed leadership, exemplary service, and enduring contributions have strengthened the fraternity’s legacy and inspired present and future generations of young Filipinos to be of service to humankind;

WHEREAS, in recognition of Alpha Phi Omega sustained commitment to the welfare of its members and to society as large, its promotion of opportunities for personal and professional growth, and its success in instilling discipline and noble values, it is appropriate to join the fraternity in celebrating its centennial founding anniversary;

WHEREAS, the House recognizes the synergy and solidarity shown by Alpha Phi Omega – Congress Alumni Association composed by professionals working in the Secretariat and House Members’ office, whose meaningful cooperation with the Alpha Phi Omega national leadership helped bring forth this recognition of the momentous 100th founding anniversary as a testament to brotherhood, compassion, and shared dedication to the nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of Alpha Phi Omega as an international service-oriented fraternity and sorority, and to commend its members for their essential role in advancing the cardinal principle of leadership, friendship and service as invaluable contributions to nation-building in the Philippines and globally;

RESOLVED, FURTHER, that a copy of this resolution be furnished to the national leadership of Alpha Phi Omega (Philippines), Incorporated.
